Todd Puts Pedal to the Metal in Growing New Recycling Business
Motor racing enthusiast and former champion driver, Todd Wanless is in the fast lane to success in the business of metal recycling.
Todd is the driving force behind the fast-growing Raw Metal Corp business at Wacol in Brisbane’s southern industrial suburbs.
The new privately-owned family business, still in its first year of operation, is ramping up a rapid expansion program for its wide ranging recovery and export services.
New Container Tilter Supports Growth of Raw Metal Corp
Raw Metal Corp is committed to leading the field in state-of-the-art equipment for efficient metal recycling.
Its new Container Tilter makes it easier for the company to export its recycled materials direct in shipping containers to its customers in Asia and India.
“We are buying heavy scrap metal direct, processing onsite with industry leading equipment, and then exporting direct,” says Raw Metal Corp Director Todd Wanless.
Raw Metal Corp Exporting to the World
Raw Metal Corp has just turned two and the list of countries throughout the world to which it exports its recycled metals continues to grow by the day. Todd Wanless founded Raw Metal Corp at Wacol in Brisbane in 2014 and brings a lifetime of experience in the automotive and recycling industries to the business.
In the two years since Raw Metal Corp started, Todd has travelled regularly and extensively throughout the world to meet with buyers direct.
The personal relationships that Todd has developed with international buyers is the big point of difference that enables Raw Metal Corp to keep on being the most competitive on purchasing recycled metals on the eastern seaboard of Australia.
The list of countries that Raw Metal Corp now exports to includes: Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Dubai, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand with Myanmar to join the list in the near future.

THE RAW METAL CAFE
Raw Metal Corp are happy to announce the opening of our very own Raw Metal Café. Boasting a brand new kitchen set up and complete with indoor sitting area the Raw Metal Café is enjoyed by all including staff, customers and even passers-by.
With the rapid arrival of these cooler winter mornings, it is now the perfect opportunity to taste the award winning Gioconda coffee now roasting from 6am Monday through to Saturday. We have created a menu intended for everyone, everything from sushi to hamburgers, curries and pastas. It also never gets boring with our daily specials for lunch and dessert. Please don’t be fooled, as soon as you step into our café, you’ll forget you’re in a scrap yard.
6 Years of Raw Metal Corp
Just over a week ago we celebrated our big 6th birthday and it has forced us to reflect on the growth we’ve had over the last couple of years. First of all, we recognise the importance of our amazing team of staff who understand our goals and values and their families who allow them to put in the hours. We would also be nowhere without our loyal customer base. We have managed create long lasting working relationships and understand the importance of mutual success.
Equipment and machinery are a huge contributor to our development. Raw Metal leaders Brett and Todd travel the world to ensure what we install is state of the art and it is with their innovation and vision that we are able to stay at the forefront of the metal recycling industry. In recent years we have installed a hammermill shredder, updated our static incline shear and have upgraded to environmentally advanced electric material handlers.
Mackay Yard opening
In June 2021, Raw Metal Corp opened its first regional yard in Mackay, found in the new Industrial hub of Paget, South Mackay. On a 4.5-acre site on the corner of Connors and Crichton’s Road near the Mackay Councils transfer station, the new yard is well placed to service Mackay and Central and North Queensland with scrap metal recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Since opening Raw Metal Mackay has earned a solid reputation with a service focus and understanding the importance of building long term relationships with its customers.
Raw Metal Mackay has invested heavily over the past year with purchases of a transport fleet of hook lift trucks, Marrell and flatbed trucks to offer a wide variety of scrap collection services. We already have a vast number of onsite scrap metal bin customers servicing throughout Mackay.
Raw Metal Corp’s 10th Birthday
Raw Metal Corp has reached a major business milestone celebrating its 10th birthday this July.
“Thanks must go to our wonderful customers, big and small, who have supported Raw Metal Corp from our beginning ten years ago,” said Todd Wanless. Brett Crosby, General Manager said at the celebratory cake cutting “It has been exciting to watch our customers continue to grow over the years and to be part of the Raw Metal Corp family. We pride ourselves on our focus on customer service and believe that building strong relationships based on trust has been key to our success.”
